Since last year I have returned my focus towards one of my first initial draws to yoga- the mysterious yet tactile initiatory force of Kundalini. What is this mysterious, misunderstood life force principle? How do we access it? Once we access it how can we utilize this energy?
I have taught about this life force energy for 25 years, and yet, its electric, pulsatory, undeniable energy is still something that seems like an experience, the depths of which we can barely reach. I am still understanding, questioning and exploring. I invite you to explore with me.
Class 1: Muladhara Root Chakra
Class 2: Svadhishana
The class begins with a short introduction to tantric philosophy and the Malas, followed by reflective journaling to help arrive inwardly. From there, the practice unfolds into a dynamic blend of asana, expansive free movement, and chanting.
Drawing from the limbs of yoga, we explore the tools of attention, breath, and awareness while cultivating a deeper relationship with the space around us and the space within the body. The practice invites expression and the courage to take up space, meeting the edges of fear and limitation through movement.
Class 3: Manipura
The class begins with reflective journaling around the question, “What do I truly want?” exploring the tantric concept of Iccha (desire) and sensing where this longing lives within the body. Through subtle awareness and chanting, we begin to locate and awaken the energy of desire through the chakras.
From there, the practice unfolds into an asana sequence that welcomes this energy into movement. Rather than imposing shapes, the body is invited to let the felt sense of longing guide the flow, allowing desire to become a creative force within the practice.
